Theory Of Mind
An autistic person may experience numerous symptoms of autism, but the most maddening and difficult to comprehend is the recently developed “Theory of Mind”. This issue has been discussed and studied in more detail over the last few decades, but it is yet a mystery to be solved. Owing to the reasons related to “Theory of Mind” problems, the societal connection become more demanding for the autistics
The Theory of Mind originates the community behavior problems for autistics almost everywhere, i.e for their journey of preschool to a member of the society as a toddler and an adult respectively. The Theory of Mind is based on the notion that autistic people may not be able to judge the perception of others. Even though, the autistic people may not be egoistic, but egoism is an intrinsic part of their persona. They imagine that everyone is at par with them as far as the understanding of various matters is concerned. The majority of autistic people cannot tell a lie. Though, it is not a bad attribute, but still it is an abnormality. They believe that everybody is speaking the truth like them, so lying is not even an option for them.
Since the autistic people do not lie, hence they believe that others are also not doing so. It is very shocking for autistic people to recognize that others are lying. This scary situation especially arises in the business world and many of the autistics are not able to handle it properly. As described earlier, they feel that the comprehension and perception of everyone else is like theirs. It is therefore, not easy for them to put themselves in others’ shoes. Though it is a hard process to teach autistic people, but it is very tough to get the autistic people learn to know about the perception of others.
Because of the Theory of Mind, the children also face problems, as they simply cannot play a game with other children, which require them to keep any secret. These children must be taught to share and release their violent behavior through non-destructive methods. Some autistic people may be irritated, as they feel that the others are not responding in a situation with the right approach (which is right according to them). The autistic children also find it difficult to comprehend, why other people do not understand certain situations like they do? The Theory of Mind is yet to be researched in order to understand and treat the symptoms of autism. At the moment, the best method to teach the autistics is the continuous social interaction, along with role-playing and other games through which autistic children view the things from several perspectives.
